Waihopai Fraemohs Solid Timber Home Build in Marlborough
Marlborough Building Services was contracted by Fraemohs to build their ‘Manapouri’ solid timber design in Waihopai. This challenging project required our team to work in extreme weather conditions, ranging from -7º frosts and snow to 35º summer days.
The home features full solid timber engineered walls CNC cut at the Fraemohs workshop, thermal broken double glazed joinery, and a Maxslab fully insulated slab with underfloor heating and fire sprinklers. A Rayburn fire-fueled stove provides heating to the underfloor, radiators throughout the home, and assists with hot water.
The solid timber walls were constructed row by row, with each layer interlocking. The “live” nature of the timber, constantly moving in response to the climate, made aligning walls and roof framing a complex task. Despite the additional challenges posed by the 50km distance from our yard, our team persevered to create a stunning and unique home.
